8^th International Workshop on Epitaxial Semiconductors on Patterned Substrates and Novel Index Surfaces

Location of ESPS-NIS

The 8^th ESPS-NIS will take place in the city of Como, in northern Italy. Conference participants should register on the 14^th of June at the Palazzo Natta in Como (via Natta 12).

The conference itself (15^th-18^th June) will take place at the Società del Casino, on the first floor of the Teatro Sociale. The Teatro Sociale is right in the historical centre of Como, next to the apse of the duomo (cathdral) and just a few hundred metres from the lake and the Como Nord LagoThe “Nord” in the names of stations on the Ferrovia Nord Milano network comes from the name of the network: “Como Lago” and “Como Nord Lago” are the same station. station on the North Milan railway, which terminates at Milan Cadorna.

Reaching Como

Within Como, most bus routes stop either at the state railway station, Como San Giovanni, or close by on Via Tolomeo Gallio. Many routes also pass through Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, in front of the Como Nord Lago Station of the North Milan railway.

By road:

The A9 (E35) “Autostrada dei Laghi” passes by Como.

By rail:

Como is served both by the state railway, and by the North Milan railway.

• Trains arrive from Milano Cadorna and stop at Como Nord Borghi and Como Nord Lago.
• Como San Giovanni railway station is to the west of the city centre, about 600 metres from Piazza Volta and about a kilometre from the Teatro Sociale. Intercity trains arrive from Milano Centrale, and also Switzerland (Zürich and Basel) via the Gotthard line. Reservations are obligatory on “Cisalpino” services. Regional trains arrive from Milano Porta Garibaldi via Greco Pirelli at Università Milano Bicocca.

By air:

The closest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Bergamo Orio al Serio.

• Milan Malpensa is served by its own railway station on the North Milan network. Change at Saronno for Como. This makes Malpensa the most convenient airport for reaching Como by public transport. It is also the easiest for those who wish to rent a car, but this is not recommended unless participants have organized accommodation for themselves well outside the historical centre (which is a traffic limited zone).
• From Milan Linate there is a shuttle bus which reaches Milano Centrale railway station in about 30 minutes.
• From Bergamo Orio al Serio there is a shuttle bus which reaches Milano Centrale railway station in about 60 minutes.
