Curriculum Vitae

Full Professor in Physics of Matter, University of Milano-Bicocca, Department of Materials Science

Coordinator of the doctoral studies in Materials Science and Nanotechnology at the University of Milano-Bicocca; since 2006, Chairman of the European doctorate in Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials (PCAM) which includes 15 Universities; since 2015 Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

Post-doctoral fellow at the Donnan Laboratories, University of Liverpool (1975-78).

Visiting Scientist at: the Freie Universität, Berlin (Germany), the Department of Chemistry of the University of Munich (Germany), the Max-Planck Institut für Strömungsforschung in Göttingen, (Germany), the Department of Physics of the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada), and the Department of Chemistry of the University of Princeton (NJ-USA).

He has lectured in several undergraduate courses in basic physics and graduate ones in many-body theory, condensed matter physics, surface science and supervised more than 30 master students and 11 Ph.D. ones.

Attività di Ricerca

His research has focused on theoretical problems in surface and materials science, treating both the adiabatic properties of adsorption by density functional theory and the modelling the dynamical ones (sticking, scattering, desorption). Recently he is investigating magnetic effects in functionalized graphene and adsorption of organic molecules in hybrid interfaces dealing with spectroscopic properties, excited states and their lifetimes.
He has presented the results of his research activity as contributions and invited papers at international conferences or as seminars at various institutions in Europe, USA, Canada, China and Japan (more than 130 times). He is author/coauthor of more than 110 papers on international peer reviewed journals.
