Biography
Silvia Picozzi received her MSc in Physics at Univ. L’Aquila, Italy (1994) and her PhD in Materials Science from Univ. Camerino, Italy (1998). She is currently Full Professor at the Deparment of Materials Science of University Milan-Bicocca and an associate member of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) at the Institute for Superconducting and Innovative materials and Devices (SPIN). She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (2019, Division of Materials Physics). She coordinated a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC, 2008-2012) and several national projects. Since 2006, she has led a scientific group and has supervised 25 post-docs throughout her career. She’s coauthor of > 230 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her activity is centered on High-Performance Computing simulations based on density functional theory for solid-state materials. In particular, her focus is on spin degrees of freedom in both magnetic and non-magnetic systems and on their interplay with other cooperative phenomena, such as ferroelectricity and charge-ordering.
Breakthroughs in Materials Science
This event is part of the series of seminars "Breakthroughs in Materials Science", organized by the Department of Materials Science of the University of Milano - Bicocca, brings together lectures by internationally renowned scientists, whose recent studies have promoted a profound evolution in the field of Materials Science. Presented with an informative nature, the seminars are aimed at researchers, students, and a wide audience of people interested in scientific topics. In addition to in-person participation, the streaming connection will be made available.
