Carlo Santoro, Assistant Professor at the Materials Science Department of the University of Milano-Bicocca, was awarded the Zhaowu Tian Prize 2023 for Energy Electrochemistry of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE). This Prize is awarded annually to scientists under 40 years of age in recognition of their recent achievements in the field of energy electrochemistry and in particular, in this case, for the development of electrocatalytic and bioelectrocatalytic systems for fuel cells, water electrolysers and bioelectrochemical applications.

Dr. Santoro returned to Italy in 2021 through the "Rita Levi Montalcini" Young Researchers Program after 12 years spent abroad in the United States (University of New Mexico and University of Connecticut), United Kingdom (University of The West of England Bristol and University of Manchester) and Singapore (Nanyang Technological University) and founded his group Electrocatalysis and Bioelectrocatalysis Laboratory (EBLab).
