The research team of the Department of Materials Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca lead by professors Angelo MonguzziLuca Beverina, e Francesco Meinardi in collaboration with the CNR institution, propose the quantum-mechanical modeling and the first direct experimental demonstration of intra-molecular triplet fusion in a single-molecule system with potential application in solar and lighting technologies by accessing the natural triplets’ energy reservoir in conjugated systems.

The results of the research have been presented in the paper “Diffusion-Free Intramolecular Triplet–Triplet Annihilation in Engineered Conjugated Chromophores for Sensitized Photon Upconversion” recently published in ACS Energy Letters (Impact Factor 23.991, Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics, 2021)).
