Communicating science to the general public is a growing need to bring citizens closer to science, to create a scientific culture and, why not, inspire tomorrow’s scientists. As part of the European project SURFICE - Smart surface design for efficient ice protection and control (www.surfice-itn.eu), coordinated by prof. Carlo Antonini at the Department of Materials Science, the idea of using comics as a communication tool was born to present the research and professional challenges of the thirteen young PhD students working on the project.
Thanks to the collaboration with the scientific illustrator Heloise Chochois, each month a story dedicated to each individual PhD student is published.
The comics, in addition to being visible on the project social channels, are also all collected here: https://www.surfice-itn.eu/home/surficecomicseries-by-heloise-chochois/
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 956703.
