Horizon Europe's RENOVATE project on recycling of lithium batteries is starting

The Horizon Europe RENOVATE project began with the kick-off meeting held in Pavia on 8 and 9 February. The aim of RENOVATE is to recycle all the components and materials of lithium batteries. The project, financed with 5 million euros, is coordinated by the INSTM Consortium of Florence. The University of Milan Bicocca participates with an important role in the recovery, through green and sustainable chemical processes, of cathodes based on cobalt and nickel, which are critical materials of strategic interest. Head of the UNIMIB Research Unit is Prof. Piercarlo Mustarelli, full professor at the Department of Materials Science.
