On May 22nd, the University of Milano-Bicocca hosted the national final selection of “Falling Walls Lab Italy 2025”, the international forum dedicated to promoting the groundbreaking ideas of the next generation of researchers.
The event was held in partnership with Fondazione U4i, MUSA scarl, University of Milan, Bocconi University, University of Bergamo, University of Pavia, University of Padua, Polytechnic University of Bari, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Catholic University of Milan, Social Innovation Teams, BiM, Netval, Liftt, MITO Technology, the Italian Embassy in Berlin, the Italian Institute of Technology, Scientifica Venture Capital, and Novaterra. The University of Milano-Bicocca selected the most convincing projects proposed by young researchers.
This year’s winner was Federico Giulio, a research fellow in the Department of Materials Science, who impressed a jury of experts from academia, research, and business with his pitch Breaking The Wall of Data Center Heat Waste. The idea behind his project is to cool electronic components in data centers using thermoelectric devices based on silicon nanowires, simultaneously reducing costs and increasing computational capacity.
Federico Giulio will present his project at the Falling Walls Lab finals in Berlin in November 2025, where other winners from Labs hosted around the world will also showcase their innovations.
